Since 2011, I’ve set reading goals on GoodReads of 20 books or more, but I found 2020 and 2021 a struggle to meet those goals. The pandemic has destroyed my ability to focus on long form and I kept requesting books, only to let them sit aside.
So I decided to be a little simpler this year. Instead of picking a random number to work towards, I’m setting a smaller goal to work through.
If you didn’t know, I’m a huge fan of the TV series “The Expanse” which will be coming to an end a couple of weeks into 2022. I read the first book, Leviathan Wakes, in 2018 and really enjoyed it but decided I didn’t want to spoil the show for myself. But now that the series is coming to an end and the books go beyond what has made it to the screen, I want to keep the magic going.
So, long story short (too late) my reading goal for 2022 will be to read all 9 novels in The Expanse series (and maybe the short stories, if I can find them).

I’ve started book 2, Caliban’s War, this past week and I’m making sure I read at least two chapters a night. I haven’t done the math yet to see when/if that means I will finish the series at that rate, but hopefully I can stick with it.
Did you set any reading goals for 2022? How many books do you read on average per year? Have you ever read a 9 book series in one go? Let me know in the comments!
